Day 1
Kathmandu in Full
The day starts at Swayambhunath — the Monkey Temple — perched on a hilltop above the city. Prayer flags, wandering monkeys, incense, and the entire valley spread out below. A calm introduction to Kathmandu before the day picks up pace.
From there you visit Pashupatinath Temple, the most sacred Hindu site in Nepal. Life and death are completely visible here — cremations on the river banks, sadhus covered in ash, priests performing rituals, cows moving freely through the grounds. Your guide helps you understand what you are actually seeing.
Next is Boudhanath Stupa, the center of Tibetan Buddhist life in Kathmandu. Walk the stupa with monks and pilgrims, spin the prayer wheels, and if timing allows, step inside one of the surrounding monasteries.
In the afternoon you visit Kathmandu Durbar Square — also known as Hanuman Dhoka — the ancient royal palace complex at the historic heart of the city, with its temples, courtyards, and the old palace that defined Kathmandu for centuries.

Day 2
Bhaktapur, Patan & Changu Narayan
The second day begins in Bhaktapur — the best-preserved medieval city in Nepal and for most guests the highlight of the trip. You spend proper time here: the main Durbar Square, Nyatapola Temple, the pottery square, and then the back streets where most tourists never go — artisan workshops, traditional courtyards, local daily life.
From Bhaktapur you continue to Changu Narayan, the oldest Hindu temple in Nepal. The approach is a quiet walk through a traditional Newari village — old houses, local families, a pace completely removed from the city. The temple itself puts everything you saw at Pashupatinath into historical context.
The afternoon is spent in Patan Durbar Square — arguably the finest collection of Newari architecture in the valley. Walk the main square, turn into the narrow alleys, find the hidden courtyards, and visit the Golden Temple (Hiranya Varna Mahavihar), an active Buddhist monastery in continuous use for nearly a thousand years. When timing allows, your guide will arrange a visit to see the Living Goddess of Patan.
